Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God

Are you a Child of God? If you are, you’re called to fight in a war. A spiritual war. In this episode I tell you what the Church and bible say about it and how to be victorious. Especially using what St. Paul calls “the armor of God.”  And how exercising the four roles (priest, prophet, king, and bridegroom)* of a Child of God gives us power and authority in this fight.

This is the first episode in a series that combines a bible study on the armor of God and spiritual warfare.

*The four roles of a Child of God are explained in the Salvation History series, episode two, The Bible, Salvation History and Being a Child of God.

Who/what we’re fighting in the spiritual war.

For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12

The seven pieces of armor that make up the armor of God.

Stand therefore, having girded your loins with [the belt of] truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace;besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one.And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

What the Church says about humanity and the spiritual war.

This dramatic situation of “the whole world [which] is in the power of the evil one” makes man’s life a battle:

Catechism of the Catholic Church 409

The whole of man’s history has been the story of dour combat with the powers of evil, stretching, so our Lord tells us, from the very dawn of history until the last day. Finding himself in the midst of the battlefield man has to struggle to do what is right, and it is at great cost to himself, and aided by God’s grace, that he succeeds in achieving his own inner integrity.
